Pro Cutz Sports Barbershop in Lewes focuses on professionalism

Sports always the topic of conversation
May 2, 2016

Anyone stepping into Pro Cutz Sports Barbershop in Lewes is immediately transported into a place where sports is king and everything else takes a back seat.

With large photographs of Adrian Peterson, Ray Lewis and some of the most iconic sports stadiums hanging over the shop's seven barber chairs, there is no question Chester Hope is looking to create an experience for his customers.

“We like to talk football, basketball, baseball, whatever the subject may be,” he said. “Make sure you know your facts before you come in.”

A proud Dallas Cowboys fan with a flag hanging on the wall, Hope said he is offering more than just passionate sports talk.

“One of the big things here is professionalism,” he said. “We want to pamper the clients. We want to make you look good but also make you feel good. We want to go the extra mile to do it.”

Every basic $20 cut comes with a hair wash and a straight razor shape up, he said. For an extra $25, customers can get a hot lather shave, hot towel and pre-shave oil.

“We're looking to bring back a real barbershop,” he said. “Somewhere safe where you can drop off the kids and wait outside if you like.”

Hope has been a barber for 24 years, working in Milton and Millsboro before opening Pro Cutz April 9.

He started down the path to becoming a barber while in college in 1992.

“I couldn't afford a haircut,” he said. “Back then, haircuts were $15, and all I had was $15. I walked down to Woolworth's and bought a pair of clippers for $10, and I've been cutting hair ever since.”

He is joined by John Glover, who, with 16 years' experience, still considers himself a baby. Glover came to Delaware from New Jersey in 2006 and built a nice client base in Dover.

He said he aims to please and focuses on hair lines, fades and keeping up with the latest trends. He grew up in his great-uncle's shop, where Glover's father also worked.

“I watched and learned,” he said. “I was just in there sweeping and paying attention.”

Glover earned his first chair at 13 and has been cutting hair and serving clients ever since.

Pro Cutz is planning a grand opening celebration for June. Hope also plans to organize a back-to-school event at the end of the summer, a tradition he began before opening his new shop.

Pro Cutz, 12001 Old Vine Blvd., Suite 104, is located in The Vineyards about a quarter mile west of the Route 9 entrance to Nassau Valley Vineyards.

The shop is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday. Call 302-313-4100 for more information.
