Beauty and the Beach: Coastal Delaware Towns Top List of Delaware's Finest

Oldfather Group
May 9, 2016

One of the things we most like to do here at the Oldfather Group, when we’re not listing and selling beautiful coastal Delaware homes that is, is searching the Internet and reading what others are saying and writing about our beautiful area of the world.

We do this for a couple of reasons, but mostly we enjoy hearing what people from other areas think about us and the place where we live and work.

We realize we’re a little biased – after all, we love it here or we wouldn’t be here. So it’s good to hear a fresh perspective every now and then when it comes to the Delaware beaches and how outsiders view the area.

And there’s been plenty of good press to go around lately. Here are links to a few stories you may enjoy:

One story that caught our eye recently was written by theculturetrip.com. It’s actually a few months old now, but we thought we’d wait until the weather turned a little warmer before spreading the good news and writing a formal blog post on the subject.

A short time ago, this Website ran an online piece entitled “The 10 Most Beautiful Towns in Delaware.” It was a nice story on the First State and some of it’s most desirable and sought after areas, and it obviously “hit home” for us.

Here’s what got our attention about this particular story, though, and it should get yours as well. Of the 10 towns featured in the piece, six are from right here in southern Delaware, including five coastal towns, as well as Georgetown, the county seat.

Seeing as there are only three counties in the state, the fact that 60 percent of Delaware’s “most beautiful towns” are here in our area should really say something about how special a place this really is.

So, what towns made the list? Well, we’re glad you asked.

Here they are, in no particular order, but with comments from the site as well as a few thoughts of our own.

  • Lewes. The story described the “First Town in the First State” as being “far from a sleepy seaside town, home to a vibrant community of local restaurants and events like the Historic Lewes Farmer’s Market.” Also home to Lewes Beach, Cape Henlopen State Park and a wonderful historic district, Lewes is definitely a great place to call home. For a comprehensive look at all there is to see and do in Lewes, read our write-up of the town HERE.
