Navy Cross recipient to address Vietnam vets in Dover May 30

Retired Marine Lt. Col. George Malone will address his fellow Vietnam veterans at 2 p.m., Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, at Kent County Veterans Memorial Park on South Little Creek Road, Dover.

A graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and the Amphibious Warfare College, Malone received numerous military awards, including the Navy Cross, two Purple Heart medals, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.

The Navy Cross was awarded to Second Lt. George M. Malone for extraordinary heroism while he was serving as a platoon commander with Company A, First Battalion, Ninth Marines, Third Marine Division, in connection with operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam early on the afternoon of  Feb. 22, 1969.

Malone is past president and board member of numerous civic and professional organizations including the Legion of Valor, Naval Order of the United States, National Capital and National Commander, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines Association.

He holds a master's degree from Pepperdine University, Malibu, Calif.; and was a bond underwriter for the St. Paul Company, an insurance agent for New York Life, a financial planner and analyst, and a partner/owner-stockholder of Military Historical Tours Inc., a travel tour company for small groups interested in military history.

He is a member of the parish finance council of St. John the Evangelist Church in Clinton, Md., and past Fourth Degree Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and a knight in the Order of Malta.
