Lester J. Wells Jr., hardworking farmer

Lester James Wells Jr., 78, of Gumboro passed away Thursday, April 7, 2011, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

Lester was born Dec. 20, 1932, to the late Lester James Wells Sr. and Pearl Cullen Wells. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Elva in 2008; one son, Lester J. Wells III;  and two sisters, Madeline Warrington and Neva Lee Pugh.

Mr. Wells farmed with his wife for over 45 years.  He was a hard worker and was devoted to his family.

Mr. Wells is survived by a son, William James Wells and his wife Kaye of Millville; daughter, Bonnie L. Wilkerson and her husband Charles of Gumboro; daughter-in-law, Deborah Wells of Gumboro; siblings, Shirley Nickelson of Bishopville, Md., Donna Rae Walker and her husband P.J. of Georgetown, Linda Milliner of Westover, Md., Bobby Wells and his wife Tina of Willards, Md.,  and Richard Wells and his wife Janie of Gumboro; brother-in-law, Paul James Fisher of Gumboro; four grandchildren, Cheryl Joseph, William J. Wells, C.J. Wilkerson, and James Wells; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call after noon.  Burial will follow at Carey’s Cemetery in Millsboro. Pastor Chuck Reynolds will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE  19963; or the Gumboro Volunteer Fire Co., Ambulance Fund, 37030 Millsboro Highway, Millsboro, DE  19966.
