Veronica Townsend to promote Be Your Best Self

April 25, 2011

Veronica Townsend, Distinguished Young Woman of Delaware for 2011, joins with young women across the nation in celebrating National Be Your Best Self Week, a national outreach effort created by Distinguished Young Women, formerly America’s Junior Miss. Townsend will visit Dagsboro Boys & Girls Club Wednesday, April 27, at 1 p.m. to present the program’s message of self-esteem and positive values.

The senior at Indian River High School is one of many young women who will take the positive message of the Be Your Best Self program to Boys & Girls Clubs and other organizations across the nation during National Be Your Best Self Week.  The national event, presented by Distinguished Young Women, will take place the week of April 25-29, 2011, and is expected to reach thousands of young people across the nation.

During National BYBS Week, state and local program representatives will visit a Boys & Girls Club or other community organization in their communities to talk to young people about being physically fit and drug free, serving their communities, staying in school, setting and achieving goals, and living by moral and ethical principles. Each Distinguished Young Woman will use her own talents and life experiences to present the message through creative and fun methods that engage the young people they meet. Past presentations have included dance lessons, puppet shows, community service projects, and interactive discussions.

Young people who agree to accept the BYBS challenge will complete pledge cards as a personal commitment to be healthy, studious, involved, ambitious, and responsible.
