Predicted rain held off, and thousands of people lined Route 1 for Dewey’s inaugural Summer Solstice Celebration June 23.
The belles of the ball were the Budweiser Clydesdales, who made the visit for the parade after Big Barrel Country Music, scheduled June 24-26, was canceled in February.
The parade began at Saulsbury Street and Route 1, and continued southbound onto Dickinson Avenue, where it went around the circle, before ending in front of the bayside beach of Van Dyke Avenue.
The parade is a project of Dewey Business Partnership. Leading the horses down Route 1 were floats, motor clubs and a live music. Completing the festivities were a bonfire, activities for kids and more live music.
