Allen J. H. Quillen, Sr., retired Realtor

Allen J. H. Quillen Sr., 85, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, at the hospice facility in Boynton Beach, Fla.

Allen, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennard F. Quillen Sr., graduated Rehoboth High School in 1949, and initially worked in the family business, D.F. Quillen & Sons. He later had an appliance business, and lastly became a Realtor in Delaware, Indiana and Florida. He was formerly a member of the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company, the Masonic Lodge of Delaware and was mayor of Dewey Beach from 1986-87.

He is survived by his devoted companion, Else Hendricks of Boynton Beach; his brother, Dennard F. Quillen Jr. of Rehoboth Beach; his children, Carol A. Quillen and her husband Vito Amitrano of Bronxville, N.Y.; Allen J.H. Quillen Jr.  of Lewes, and Cassandra Walker and her husband Jamie Walker of Milford. He is also survived by three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, his sister, Florence L. Harman; and his daughter, Susan A. Poteat predeceased him.

 Allen loved boating, water skiing, crabbing, clamming and fishing in Rehoboth and Delaware bays as well as the Atlantic Ocean. An avid fan of cars from a young age, he loved convertibles, and enjoyed being a spectator at stock car and NASCAR races.

A gravesite service for immediate family will be held at Epworth Methodist Cemetery, Rehoboth Beach, Thursday, Aug. 25.
