Breast cancer awareness events set in October

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Fundraising events and educational outreach programs sponsored by individuals, businesses and organizations are scheduled throughout the month. Funds raised provide support for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition Inc. to bring breast health programs and services to women throughout Delaware.

Monthlong promotions

Tanger Outlets in Rehoboth Beach holds its 2016 PinkStyle Campaign through Monday, Oct. 31. The promotion offers shoppers the opportunity to purchase a Powerful Pink Card for $5 in exchange for an unlimited use savings card which entitles the bearer to 25 percent off a select item once a day at participating Tanger Outlet stores. Discount cards can be purchased at Tanger shopper services at Tanger Surfside or Tanger Seaside. To purchase online, go to www.tangeroutlets.com and select the "Delaware: Rehoboth Beach" location. Proceeds of the Powerful Pink Card will be donated to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The Bayhealth Cancer Institute and the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition present Go Pink T-Shirts to be worn every Friday during the month of October. Specially designed T-shirts are available for a donation of $10 or more. For more information, go to www.bayhealthfoundation.org.

Kings Tire and Lube of Milford will Roll Over Cancer and donate $3 from every tire sold in October to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. Customers will also have the chance to make a donation, and Kings Tire and Lube will match the donation.

Fundraising events

Bras Across Mispillion with Eagle 97.7 is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, in Bicentennial Park in Milford. Eagle 97.7 and the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition will be collecting pink bras to string across the bridge at noon for photos and to raise awareness for the cause. Petch and Amy will be broadcasting live. All proceeds will benefit the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition.

Pink Chip Weekend is set at Dos Locos Stone Grill and Tex-Mex Restaurant in Rehoboth Beach Friday, Oct. 21 through Sunday, Oct. 23. Diners may order an extra basket of pink chips for $5 and Dos Locos will donate the $5 to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition.

The Fourth Annual Georgetown Breast Cancer Awareness Car Show is set for 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22, on the circle in Georgetown and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 23, at 16 Mile Brewery in Georgetown. Admission is free. Cost to enter a car is $12. The Cruisers live band will perform on The Circle at Cruise-in Saturday night. The car show is Sunday. The Rehoboth Beach Film Society in collaboration with the AAUW Coastal Georgetown Branch and the League of Women Voters of Sussex County will present the film "Cancer? Seriously?" at 7 p.m,. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the Cinema Art Theater in Lewes. A post-film discussion will be led by Connie Holdridge. Admission is $9 per screening. A Halloween open house at is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at First State Chevy Olds in Georgetown in partnership with the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition.

Plantation Lakes in Millsboro will hold a walk, bake sale, coffee, raffles and sale of breast cancer merchandise from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 29. Cost of the walk is $5 per individual or $10 per family. For more information, contact mattison@legumnorman.com or call 302-934-5200. 

The Wise and Well Total Woman's Conference is set 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Delaware Technical Community College William A. Carter Partnership Center in Georgetown. Navigating the Course is set Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Beebe Healthcare Tunnell Cancer Center in Rehoboth Beach. This is a free program for people newly diagnosed with breast cancer to learn more about breast cancer and the resources that are available to help. This program is facilitated by Connie Holdridge, program manager, and Kathy Cook, RN, MSN, breast health nurse navigator. Continuing the Conversation is set at 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition Lewes office. All women who have experienced cancer as a patient or caregiver are invited to join. Discussion will include sharing of experiences, ideas and suggestions on living with cancer and after cancer. Ongoing programs
