On Sunday, the Eagles made it seem like they couldn't even get out of their own way with a second game of double digit penalties. You would also think that now-suspended Lane Johnson was the MVP of the team. The offensive line was terrible and gave up five sacks, which could have been seven.
Overall, the defense was just as bad other than one play. That was an interception for a touchdown in the second quarter. In order for the Eagles to get back on track, for their very young offense to succeed again, the defense has to carry most of the load like it did in the first three games. This week's opponent is the undefeated Minnesota Vikings.
And, it will be the return of Sam Bradford to Philadelphia. I will be interested to see the fans’ reaction to him being in Philly. I don't think it is very likely that the Eagles will break their losing streak against the Vikings with this deck of cards, but you never know.
In baseball, the Cleveland Indians will be representing the American League in the World Series starting next Tuesday in Cleveland. The Indians haven't won the World Series since 1948. In beating the favored Toronto Blue Jays, it was amazing to watch Andrew Miller pitch as a long reliever for three innings and giving up NO runs in the clinching game. He pulled that off in multiple games in the Toronto series; something that almost never happens with relievers these days.
The National League series is still ongoing and is tied 2 games apiece as of Thursday. I am still conflicted as to who I want to win the NLCS. I kind of like the Dodgers because they have three former 2008 World Series Champion Phillies on their roster. On the other hand, the historical value of a win to the Chicago franchise would be wonderful for the Windy City. If Chicago comes out on top of the NLCS, one REALLY long title drought has to end in one of the cities on the Great Lakes. Makes for great baseball no matter what!
In local sports news, I wanted to wish the Cape High football team the of best luck I can offer. The drought they have suffered through to get to the state playoffs goes back to my middle school days in the Nineties.
Go Cape! Beat CR!!!
