Second-graders write letters to thank veterans

November 21, 2016

The American Legion Post in Lewes held a Veterans Day service Nov. 11. The veterans joined in the pledge of allegiance and singing the national anthem with community members including children in attendance. As veterans departed, they were each given a letter that was written by different second-grade students. The letters showed they knew about the American flag and what it represents, and each personal letter said thank you veterans.

Veteran George Perasso sent a copy of the the letter he received. He says, “After the recent election and nationwide division, this letter, for me, was a symbol of hope for America. It touched my heart. Remember, this is a second-grader’s spelling, but it is well written and made me smile. The veterans all loved their letters. Thank you to the wonderful students that wrote these.”
