Elizabeth ‘Betty’ F. DeBoer, noted artist

Elizabeth "Betty" F. DeBoer, 88, of Lewes, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. She was born Thursday, Aug. 23, 1928, in Montclaire, N.J., daughter of the late Edward W. Sr. and Mildred (Atwill) France.

Mrs. DeBoer was a 1950 graduate of University of Delaware with a degree in home economics. She later returned to UD and obtained a master’s degree in elementary guidance. Mrs. DeBoer was a member of the Lewes Yacht Club. She was a local artist, watercolor being her favorite medium, and taught beginners’ painting at Biggs Museum and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD, Lewes. She loved water aerobics and her once-a-week bridge club, but more than anything, she cherished the time she spent with her family.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. DeBoer was preceded in death by her brother, York France. She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, who served for 10 years in the Delaware National Guard, Samuel DeBoer; her daughters: Debbie Kee and her husband Ed of Lincoln, and Donna Nacchia and her husband Joseph of Wilmington; her brothers: Edward Watson France Jr. of Bradenton, Fla., and Robert France of Penndel, Pa.; her grandchildren: Veronica and Samuel Nacchia, Karey Kee Henderson and Jessica Kee McKenzie; and her great-grandchildren: Reilly, Michael, and Casey McKenzie, and Ivy and Aven Reed, who all affectionately referred to her as "Mom-Mom Beach.”

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held Friday, Dec. 30, at 10 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. Entombment will follow at 1 p.m., at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mrs. DeBoer's memory to the Lewes Fire Department, P.O. Box 225, Lewes, DE 19958.

The family would like to extended their gratitude to all of the nurses at Beebe Healthcare who helped to care for Mrs. DeBoer.
