A Christmas post card from Delaware postmarked 1905

December 27, 2016

This State of Delaware Christmas post card, published in Wilmington, circulated in 1905.  The warm home scene is accented by a family of Blue Hen chickens. The card is part of the George Luther Caley Post Card Collection housed at Delaware’s Public Archives.

Caley was a well-known genealogist, author, local historian and an avid postcard collector. When he passed away in 2005, the future of his life’s work was uncertain. Irene Caley generously donated her husband’s collection of Delaware and Delmarva postcards to the Delaware Public Archives to ensure public access to the images and for long-term preservation.
