Rick Quill knew he was feeling better because his clothes were loose and the scale said he lost weight, but without a baseline test in the Bod Pod - a state-of-the-art body fat testing machine - he would never have known the full extent of what he had actually accomplished. Rick is currently enrolled in my 12-week body transformation and just finished the sixth week, but he is inspired to work harder because his Bod Pod test proves he is on the right track and making tremendous progress.
Too often people gauge their success on the scale alone. Information gained from frequently checking weight can be misleading because weight loss means nothing if you are not dropping body fat. As we age, we lose on average 1 to 3 pounds of muscle per year, and this is why we begin to feel soft and flabby. Unfortunately, this is one of the results of getting older. But if you incorporate proper weight lifting, cardio and a healthy diet, you can reverse or stall the aging process. To make sure you’re on the right track, it’s important to periodically test and monitor results. There are many ways to check progress, but the Bod Pod is the gold standard in the fitness industry and gives you a wealth of important information, including your exact weight, body fat percentage, pounds of muscle gained and estimated calories burned daily.
Quill entered our program with the goal of losing weight and getting in shape, but before he started we tested him so we would have a baseline to track his progress. Last week was his first retest since he started training with us, and his results shed some light on exactly how well he is doing so far. In just six weeks, Rick has lost almost 20 pounds, but more importantly, he has dropped 5.5 percent body fat or 19 percent of the fat he had on his frame when he started, which is a huge accomplishment in a short period of time. It shows he is heading in the right direction. His results were well above average and put him in a very good position to finish strong with an excellent transformation. But knowing how much progress he has made has inspired him to work even harder, because he knows what he is doing is working.
In addition to losing weight and body fat, Rick has noticed that his body is going through a lot of different positive changes. He has become much more capable of completing difficult workouts, and his ability to do cardio has increased dramatically. Rick will test again on week 12 when he finishes the program, and the goal will be to lose more weight, drop more body fat and preserve lean muscle.
The bottom line is, you can dramatically increase your chances of getting in shape simply by taking the time to make a goal and then periodically test yourself to see if you are making progress. To do this, you need the most accurate, up-to-date information available to guide you, and the Bod Pod is an excellent way to ensure that you are not only dropping weight but also losing body fat, making your results the best they can possibly be. I would suggest testing every three to six weeks as well as monitoring weight loss weekly, and this will greatly increase your chances of success with your fitness goals.
