Catherine Ann ‘Toot’ Benner, loved motorcycles

Catherine Ann "Toot" Benner, 53, of Lancaster, Pa., passed away Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. She was born Thursday, Dec. 5, 1963, in Ephrata, Pa., daughter of Vernon L. and the late Mary (McNally) Benner.

Ms. Benner was a graduate of Cocalico High School in Denver, Pa., after which she enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. Ms. Benner began working at Moyer Kids Clothing where she was employed for several years. She then pursued employment at R. R. Donnelly Printing Co. in Lancaster, Pa., where she contributed 27 loyal years. She also worked part time at Boscov's.

She was a member of the American Legion Post 34, The Riverside Camping Association, Women of the Moose Chapter 1814, AmVets Post 2, the Hambones, Gouglersville Fire Company, and American Legion Riders at Post 34. Toot loved motorcycles and riding, being active in the Veterans Association, and supporting and raising money for St. Baldrick's. Her favorite place to be was the beach, and she enjoyed time spent at Tall Pines Campground. She was an avid reader and loved celebrating St. Patrick's Day in Ocean City, Md. A passionate lover of music, she was a ardent fan of the Screamin Daisys. She had a zest for life, an infectious smile, and was the life of every party. To know her was to love her. She was a caring and devoted partner, daughter, mother, sister, aunt and friend, and she who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her mother, Toot was preceded in death by her nephew Clarence Gockley. She is survived by her beloved partner of 16 years, Susan Shellenberger of Lancaster; her son Brad A. Benner of Lancaster; her brother Eugene Benner and his wife Evelyn of Stevens, Pa.; her sisters: Linda Gockley and her husband Collin of Stevens, and Christine Burd and her husband James of Stevens; numerous nieces and nephews; and her three Boston Terriers: Muggs, Alyssa, and Izzy B.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 19, at American Legion Post 34, 1388 Arcadia Road, Lancaster. Her last motorcycle ride and final interment will be held  Sunday, May 28, at Roosevelt Inlet, Lewes, time to be determined at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions in Ms. Benner's "Toot's" memory to American Legion Post 34, 1388 Arcadia Road, Lancaster, PA 17601.
