Tyler Ward lost 45 pounds and transformed his body with knowledge
Tyler Ward is different from most young people his age. He doesn’t eat fast food, drink alcohol or hang out on the couch playing video games. Instead, he spends eight hours per week in the gym and chooses to eat a mostly healthy diet with lean proteins, clean carbohydrates and healthy fats. However, this was not always the case. In ninth grade, he tipped the scale at 220 pounds. He didn’t like the way he felt and wanted to make a change, so he decided to research working out, and he began his journey to transform his body.
Tyler is currently a freshman at the University of Delaware. He goes to the gym four times a week. His fitness journey started several years earlier before he realized it was something he enjoyed doing. He always had the will to change his body but just didn’t have the knowledge to get it done. “I always knew I wanted to get in shape and tried as far back as eighth grade, but I just didn’t know how to do it,” said Ward.
He tried several times but became discouraged because nothing worked. As time passed, he began doing research and found a few basic workouts that gave him results, and it wasn’t long before he was hooked.
“I got to a point where I wasn’t happy with my weight and viewed myself as the average out-of-shape guy, so in February of my junior year of high school I decided to take control, and I began working out more seriously,” Tyler said. “At the time I didn’t really know what I was doing, so my workout consisted mostly of cardio, body weight movements and interval training. Once I saw my body begin to transform, going to the gym changed from work I did for the purpose of looking better into a passion that I really enjoyed doing.”
Over time, he was able to drop his weight to 175 pounds. He dramatically changed his appearance and his overall health. This past summer, Tyler realized something was missing, and he was ready to take his training routine to the next level. “I wanted to learn how to add weight training to my regimen, and a friend of mine was currently doing your body transformation and it sounded exactly what I was looking for, so I checked out your website and made the call, and the rest is history,” he said.
The first time Tyler came in to see me we did a basic workout and discussed a healthy diet. Tyler tested in the Bod Pod and was an amazing 7 percent body fat. We soon began teaching him basic weightlifting movements and taught him how to eat healthy, but to loosen his diet so he would be able to enjoy life and put on quality muscle mass. Since then, Tyler has made more great progress. He also takes time from his busy college schedule to drive from Newark to Sussex County every month to get his new workouts and train with us, sometimes leaving as early as 6:30 a.m. to get here in time to get back and fulfill his college obligations.
Tyler is currently a business major and hopes to someday blend his passion for fitness into a career. He is currently getting his personal training certification and will continue working with me as a client, but he will also serve as apprentice this summer with Antonio’s Personal Training Systems. “I always knew I wanted to get in shape, but what I once viewed as work has slowly turned into a burning passion, and I want to show others what getting in shape has done for me in my life,” he said.
