Thomas M. Atkins, loved the outdoors
Thomas M. Atkins, 75, of Millsboro, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Sunday, April 9, 2017, at his home. Tom was born in Millsboro, July 18, 1941, son of the late Jacob and Emma (Hitchens) Atkins.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Tom retired from DuPont Company in Seaford in 1991 with 34 years of service.
Tom loved the outdoors and spending time at Hatteras and the Outer Banks in North Carolina. He loved fishing and hunting, and was a member of the Burnt Swamp Sportsmen's Association in Gumboro, and American Legion Post 24 in Dagsboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jacob Atkins and a sister Joyce Long. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Terry (Mears) Atkins; a son, Brian Atkins and his partner Susan Clarkson of Georgetown; and a daughter, Crystal Trout and her husband Eric of Pennsylvania. Tom is also survived by a brother, Harvey Atkins of Delmar; a sister, Deborah Brandner of Millsboro; his mother-in-law, Sylvia Mears of Dagsboro; his caregiver of over a year, Beth Tolson of Laurel; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Friday, April 14, at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford, where friends and family may call after 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Dagsboro Redmen Memorial Cemetery.
