The Henlopen Grange presented its 40th Annual Community Citizens Award April 18 during the Open House at the Grange Hall in Lewes. This year's recipient is Jennie Hansen of the Cape Henlopen Food Basket.
Hansen was on the original planning committee 15 years ago, and she continues as a volunteer and is a board member to this day. Originally from New Jersey, Hansen began volunteering when she retired to Delaware and started at the New Life Thrift Shop. For the last 15 years, Hansen has been volunteering at the CHFB.
In 2016 the CHFB served 2,091 households. She also makes soup for the Bible Study at Groome United Methodist Church and also started a Breakfast Mission. Hansen says, "Volunteering should be part of our lives. The rewards are worth it."
