CAMP’s Broadwalk on Boardwalk deemed a success

May 5, 2017

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition has announced that the Seventh Annual Broadwalk on the Boardwalk, hosted by CAMP Rehoboth, was a huge success. The event, held April 9 in Rehoboth, raised $10,339 to support the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition's local programs and services for those facing breast cancer.

Hundreds of attendees gathered on the Boardwalk to join the free event. Supporters formed a heart at the end of the beach, and survivors were invited in the center of the heart to be surrounded by love. All cancer survivors were included in the celebration.

Connie Holdridge, DBCC's program manager of education and survivorship in Sussex County, noted, "Broadwalk on the Boardwalk is a free event so all of the money raised came in the form of donations. The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is overwhelmed by the generous support from the public and grateful to CAMP Rehoboth for this partnership each year."

The event was made possible due to generous support from CAMP Rehoboth and the Jolly Trolley along with donations from the community. Proceeds from Broadwalk on the Boardwalk will benefit DBCC's programs which increase breast cancer awareness, promote the importance of early detection, provide access to mammograms, and provide support and resources to women and men in the local community who are newly diagnosed or facing recurrence of breast cancer.

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is a 501(c)(3) organization offering statewide programs and services of education, outreach, and early detection and treatment of breast cancer. Its mission is to create a community where every person diagnosed with breast cancer is a survivor, and fear and doubt are replaced with knowledge and hope.

Headquartered in Wilmington with offices in Sussex and Kent counties, DBCC's programs reach diverse communities to deliver messages that address their unique concerns about breast cancer and early detection. Recognizing the barriers of language, culture, and economics, DBCC trains community advocates to educate and encourage women to take responsibility for breast health. DBCC helps women with low incomes and those with little or no insurance to receive free or reduced-cost care.
