Yay, the draft is over!

May 4, 2017

Yes. I am a big fan of professional football but... ESPN and the NFL Network absolutely over-hype and dramatize the draft process! Having about 15 hours of virtually continuous coverage is crazy. I was only able to stomach about an hour and 1/2 of it all for the first round until the Eagles picked at #14. For the most part, I was pleased with the Eagle's draft because they focused on the defensive side of the ball. This is where they need the most help. There is no way any fan knows the names of all 253 people drafted! Well, maybe one or two.

Now the Sports channels can get back to focusing on the results that matter in the NBA and NHL playoffs. There's still a long way to go with it only being the start of the 2nd round for basketball and hockey.

So much for the Phillies’ momentum last week. They were over the 500 mark for the first time in a couple of years but then they went on the dreaded West Coast trip and got handled very easily by the Los Angeles Dodgers for a three-game sweep. The Dodgers look like they could actually end up in the World Series come October.

The Phils are currently playing the Chicago Cubs for four games at Wrigley Field and will finish their long road trip with games against the Washington Nationals this coming weekend. The Phillies’ bullpen is struggling big time. Sadly this was my prediction all along.

I was able to attend the lacrosse game between Caesar Rodney and my Cape Henlopen Vikings this week. It was quite an intense game from the opening face-off. CR had the lead for the great majority of the game. The only two times that it was tied was when it was 2-2 at the end of the first quarter and 5-5 deep into the fourth-quarter. Cape was never able to come into the lead. CR pulled out the win, 6 to 5.

Cape's offense had a very rough night. In order for them to reach their usual position in the semi finals of the state tournament, they will have to start to move around more on offense. It was frustrating to see players watching a couple teammates try to do everything by themselves. The talent is there. They just have to work more as a team.

For high school sports, there is about a week and a half left until playoff time. Here's to all the other spring sports teams. Can't wait to see if the Cape women's lacrosse team can take it all the way to the end with another amazing straight state championship. That would make their record an incredible 9 years in a row!
