John Joseph Calloway, former lead salesman
John Joseph Calloway, 50, of Dagsboro, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, July 8, 2017, at his brother David's home, after a long battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 21, 1966, to Robert and Gail Calloway in Media, Pa.
He graduated from Solanco High School in Quarryville, Pa., in 1983, and then served in the Navy where he earned the Navy Expeditionary Medal and the Navy Battle "E" Ribbon. He was a salesman for Homeview Contractors in Baltimore, Md., where he was the lead salesman for seven years.
John will be remembered for his infectious smile, his baby blue eyes and always helping anyone in need with a place to stay, food, clothing, a ride or money. We never knew who John was bringing to family functions but always knew to set an extra plate. He loved gardening, and shared his plants and produce with everyone. John knew no stranger, and was a friend to all. He followed the Philadelphia Eagles and the Baltimore Ravens.
He is survived by his three children, John Jacob, 18, Joslynn Raven, 12, and Faith Marie, 9, and his loyal dog Coconut, a Bichon; his mother Judith "Gail" Yorkey of Georgetown; brothers Robert Calloway of Lincolnton, N.C.; David Calloway of Long Neck; sisters Dawn Hurd of Georgetown, Michelle McCauley of Elkton, Va., and Bonnie Potter of Elkton; his grandmother, Elisabeth Yorkey of Stanardsville, Va.; three uncles; five aunts; three nieces; five nephews; and 11 cousins.
Special thanks to his brother David and wife Kelly for their nursing, comfort and loving care in keeping him during his last weeks; his sister Dawn for her many meals and loving nature, especially during his last days; Dr. Srihari Peri and the staff at Tunnell Cancer Center, for their many years of medical advice and care; Compassionate Care Hospice; Interim Aides, Americare and Science Care for their care and support during this difficult time.
There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 15, at the Bayshore Community Church, 36759 Millsboro Hwy., Millsboro.
