The Stepping Stone in Lewes will continue its 25th anniversary celebration with a show and demonstration by ceramicist Ron Korczynski from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, July 22.
Since his retirement in 1995 from a career teaching art, Korczynski turned full-time studio artist. His stoneware and low-fire pieces are available at select galleries across the country. Korczynski and his wife Judy work one-on-one with gallery owners to provide the perfect pieces for each location.
For his low-fire pieces, Korczynski burns intricate designs into a styrofoam mold, then imprints the design onto a clay slab. After the clay is bisque fired, he works with underglazes to create the vibrant finished products. Pieces are food safe and functional, although most of them get displayed on walls or stands as clay art.
The public is invited to come by the gallery to meet Korczynski and watch him work. An expanded selection of his work will also be for sale during the show.
