There was a time in Delaware when people hauled long nets along the shoreline to catch trout, blues, flounder, crabs and whatever else might be running at the time. Haul seining was a source of fresh food, and family and friends would show up to see what they could bargain for.  It was also fun to see what the net would catch in its great sweeps through the shallows.

In recent months we have been publishing many samples of photos included on postcards in the George and Irene Caley Postcard Collection. According to information included with the collection on the Delaware Public Archives website: “George Luther Caley was a well-known genealogist, author, local historian and an avid postcard collector. When George passed away in 2005, the future of his life’s work was uncertain. Irene Caley generously donated George’s collection of Delaware and Delmarva postcards to The Delaware Public Archives to ensure public access to the images and for long-term preservation.”
