The $550,000 Sussex County Emergency Operations Center and airport solar energy project is complete. According to Steve Hudson, director of technical engineering, the system went on line July 29 and was fully operational Aug. 10, including its monitoring equipment.

The 109-kilowatt system is the largest in Sussex County and among the largest solar projects in the state. A federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant covered the project’s cost. Harbeson-based Flexera Inc. designed and constructed the system, which could cut the emergency operations center's utility costs by nearly 75 percent.
