Headquarters for the Coleman DuPont Highway construction

May 11, 2018

When the Coleman DuPont Highway was being built from north to south through Sussex County in the early 1900s, headquarters for this monumental engineering and economic development-spurring project were located in this classic Georgetown Victorian house. This photograph was made in 1912.

George Luther Caley was a well-known genealogist, author, local historian and an avid postcard collector. When George passed away in 2005, the future of his life's work was uncertain. Irene Caley generously donated George's collection of Delaware and Delmarva postcards to The Delaware Public Archives to ensure public access to the images and for long-term preservation.
