Audrey Ida Uhthoff, loved the Lord
Audrey Ida Uhthoff (née Heldt), 78, went to be with her Lord Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018, in Laurel. She died peacefully, at home, with family around her.
Audrey was born July 13, 1940, in Athens, Wis., to the late Reinhold and Esther Heldt. She married the love of her life, Steven D. Uhthoff, Sept. 7, 1968. Audrey was a member of Georgetown Wesleyan Church, where her husband is pastor.
Audrey is survived by her husband, Pastor Steven D. Uhthoff of Laurel, and children: Sandra (Walter) Lehmann and Debra (Ronald) Cobb of Sheboygan, Wis., Susan (James) Lefeber of Plymouth, Wis., and Steven R. (Tracy) Uhthoff of Annapolis, Md.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Raymond (Erika) Heldt of Fort Meyers, Fla., and Kenneth Heldt of Wausau, Wis.; a brother-in-law, Lester Nowacki of Merrill, Wis., and a sister-in-law, Marge (Ross) Naylor of Richmond, Mi. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Betty and Edward Dahl, and Delores Nowacki; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Judy Heldt.
After five years farming with Steve, Audrey and their four children went with Steve back to school, moving first to Houghton, Mich., and then to Madison, Wis. After college, she moved with her family to Kohler, Wis.. In 1978, Audrey and Steve sold their home in Kohler, and moved aboard their sailboat to set sail for the Bahamas and the Eastern Shores. They settled in Annapolis, Md., until retiring, when they moved to Laurel. She was active in their church and community.
Audrey loved the Lord. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, ready hugs, a kiss on the cheek and for her deep love for her friends and family. She was known to many as "Mama" or "Grandma." Her home was always open to everyone. Audrey's passion and delight was cooking and entertaining. She loved cooking, collecting recipes and cookbooks, reading and meeting new people. She made friends wherever she went.
Audrey has gone on to her biggest and best family reunion in Heaven, where she will be welcomed by her Lord and friends and relatives who have preceded her in death.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 10, at Georgetown Wesleyan Church, 618 N. Bedford St., Georgetown. A time of greeting for friends and family will start at 1 p.m., with the service to follow at 2 p.m. Pastor Todd Crofford will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Audrey's life. A private interment for family will take place Monday, Aug. 13, at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware.
The family offers a special thanks to the staff at the Delaware Hospice Center for their loving care during Audrey's last days.
