“Peaches ripen in the summertime, apples ripen in . . .

". . . the fall. If I can't have the one I love I don't want no one at all." This verse from a classic bluegrass song couldn't be more appropriate for Sussex County at this time of the year. Sussex farmers have a strong crop of peaches this summer, and they are full of color and flavor and juice. This photograph from Aug. 14, 1925, shows a picker filling a bushel basket at the Newton farm near Bridgeville. Peaches have long been an important summer fruit crop for Delaware.
