Mariner hockey ties Delmar 1-1

October 4, 2018

It was a hard-fought back-and-forth game Oct. 3 between Mariner and Delmar, and when the final horn sounded, the Vikings had tied the Wildcats 1-1 to move to 2-0-1 on the young season.

“Delmar always comes out tough and is typically the game to see each year,” said Mariner coach Cindy Brown. “They were tough again this year and kept pressure on our defense. Morgan Newcomb was fantastic in the goal, coming up with some amazing saves. We have some speed on the forward line, but we just can’t find the back of the cage.

“We have a very young group of girls. They’re all learning what they’re capable of each game. That was the most pressure we’ve seen on our defense. We are very, very proud of their determination today. We just came up short.”

Mariner will host Selbyville Middle School Monday, Oct. 8.
