The Delmar field hockey team went Wildcats on the Caravel Bucs Nov. 16, taking a 5-0 victory and the DIAA Division II field hockey trophy back to the town too big for one state. The Wildcats end the season at 18-0. They have not lost a game since Oct. 22, 2016, when they fell 1-0 to Cape.
Delmar eighth-grader Maci Bradford started off the scoring unassisted at 23:48. She tallied her second goal off a pass from senior Ashlyn Carr at 9:09. The roles were reversed at the 2:22 mark, when Carr scored off a pass from Bradford.
The Wildcats came out fired up in the second half with sophomore Payton Lynch scoring at 10:48 off an assist from Bradford. Senior Anna Webster finished the scoring at 7:31 with an assist from eighth-grader Josie Hollamon.
The Wildcats took 19 shots to Caravel’s zero and also held a 12-0 edge in penalty corners.
Caravel’s Karli Cauley finished her high school career with 13 saves in the cage.
In the three championship seasons for the Wildcats, they have had a 54-1 record with 40 shutouts, scoring 378 goals while only relinquishing 16.

He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
