David Eugene Abercrombie, Anglican priest

David Eugene Abercrombie, 95, of Rehoboth Beach died peacefully Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at Beebe Healthcare, Lewes, surrounded by his family after a short illness.

Dave was born Dec. 1, 1923, in Baltimore, Md., to Reginald and Ruth Abercrombie and was the oldest of four siblings. He was a graduate of Johns Hopkins University with a degree in chemical engineering and was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran where he served on the USS Washington. He later worked at E.I. DuPont Company and helped to found Maryland Mechanical Contracting in Baltimore. His life was guided by his faith, and in 2003 he became an ordained priest in the Anglican Church of North America.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Wanda; his three children, Susan Gardner, David B. Abercrombie and Taylor Abercrombie; his sisters Elaine Fulmer and Mary Elizabeth Hammond; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

He was laid to rest beside his family at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Oxford, Md., on his beloved Eastern Shore where a private memorial was held. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to St. Thomas the Disciple Church, PO Box 2697, Salisbury, MD 21802.

Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
