Milton Arts Guild color workshop to begin March 9
Milton Arts Guild will present Rethinking Color, a two-day workshop for intermediate and advanced painters, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays, March 9 and 16. Direct application instructor Jan Crooker will facilitate the sessions designed to recharge painters’ approaches to color.
The first morning will focus on great artists’ color use, variables in viewing reproductions, analysis demo, and class color analysis. That afternoon, class members will compare artwork they brought with their favorite reproductions. The sessions will cover color choices and value relationships, colors of reductions integrated into existing paintings, and final analysis of the process of rethinking color.
During the week between classes, participants will work at home on a painting inspired by tricks and techniques learned on day one. That artwork should be brought to day two, whether it is finished or unfinished.
Saturday March 16, the session focus from morning to afternoon will be on direct application. Participants will discuss their progress during the week and which techniques and tricks they used, issues encountered and experience so far with rethinking color in their own artwork.
Crooker, a Pennsylvania native, holds an MFA from Penn State Univiersity where she majored in ceramics with a minor in drawing. She turned her attention to painting in the early 2000s, and now displays in galleries and art leagues in the mid-Atlantic region. For more information, go to www.jancrooker.com.
Space is limited. Classes will meet at 310 Walnut St., Milton. Cost is $120 for members and $140 for nonmembers.
