Sussex County is renovating a pump station on Silver Lake Drive, just outside of Rehoboth. In an email Feb. 4, county Engineer Hans Medlarz said the pump station is 40 years old and due for an upgrade.

To help with the upgrade, the county has installed some large pieces of equipment onsite. Medlarz said the equipment helps with the dewatering process needed to pull the water table down, allowing construction to proceed. He said the process takes a couple of weeks, which began near the end of January.

In all, the complete renovation will take at least three months and cost at least $250,000, said Medlarz. Depending on depth and complexity, he said, completion time and cost can double.
