RSVP by March 8 for historic movie night in Laurel

March 3, 2019

The public is invited to join the Laurel Historical Society for a night at the movies that will explore and celebrate historic movie theaters of Delaware, from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, March 16, at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 600 S. Central St., Laurel.

The night will include a showing of the 1942 film "Casablanca" during cocktails with a cash bar and dinner.

Following dinner, author Michael Nazarewycz will touch on various aspects of his book, “Historic Movie Theaters of Delaware.” He will share photos and anecdotes from his research and writing journey. Signed copies of his book will be available for $20 cash at the event.

Nazarewycz had been writing about movies for several years when one day he realized all the movie theaters he went to as a child were gone. He started looking into the history of those theaters, and his research evolved into a history book about all Delaware theaters, including Laurel's own Waller Theater.  He also covers the history and evolution of movie-going in Delaware.

The deadline to RSVP is Friday, March 8, and tickets are $40 per person. To purchase tickets, go to laureldehistoricalsociety.org.
