Scholar to explore life of Simone Weil March 11 in Lewes

Ronald Collins, a University of Washington law professor and Lewes resident, will interview Lawrence Schmidt, emeritus professor of religious ethics in the Center for the Study of Religion at the University of Toronto, at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 11, at Lewes Public Library.

This interview is part of a lecture series conducted by Collins that explores the life and work of Simone Weil (1909-43), the French philosopher and Resistance activist whom Albert Camus tagged as “the only great spirit of our times.” The lecture series is co-hosted by Topical Seminars, a bimonthly meeting of community members interested in participating in sessions of informed discourse on a variety of topics. The goal is to have a shared learning experience that will improve the social capital of the community. 

Schmidt is the author of “The End of Ethics in a Technological Society,” and also a co-translator of “Simone Weil: Late Philosophical Writings.” He has authored some three dozen articles on Weil.
