Deborah (Deby) Ann Gordon Moore, 68, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 10, 2019, at Delaware Hospice. Born in Wilmington, she was the daughter of H. Lynn (Hoffman) Gordon Jankus of Lewes and the late John (Jack) E. Gordon. During her last weeks with us, Deby was surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, John C. Jankus.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Detlev (Deke) Moore; son Brian McCarthy and his wife Kristin; daughter Laura Griffith and her husband Ryan; stepdaughter Heidi Klous and her husband Brian; stepson Ian Moore; grandchildren Ryan Marshall Griffith, Elie, Duncan and Matilda McCarthy, and Grace and Molly Klous; siblings John Gordon and wife Marge, Patricia McMichael and husband Charles, Cheri Gordon-Patterson, Gerilyn Gaskill and husband Howard, Joseph Gordon and wife Cheryle, Theresa Davis and husband James, Tara Fairchild and her husband Scott; stepmother Arden Lohr Gordon; stepsisters Becky Dammann and Jennifer Yoon; stepbrothers Jimmy, John and David Prichard, and Bruce, Chris, Jim, Matt and Sean Lohr; 16 nieces and nephews and their spouses; and 19 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Deby was a graduate of Wilmington High School and represented the school at the 1968 Distributed Education Clubs of America conference in Dallas, Texas. She attended Delaware Technical Community College and Keene State College in New Hampshire. She was employed for 15 years at Chase Manhattan Bank.
Deby won the title of Miss Rehoboth Beach in 1972 using her skills as a concert pianist. She then went on to represent Rehoboth Beach in the Miss Delaware state competition.
A resident of Lewes for the past 15 years, Deby was a member of the Colonel David Hall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Millsboro CHEER Center and Conley’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed listening to classical music, going to the CHEER center, crocheting blankets, the annual shopping trip with her sisters, and spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family and her little kitty cat, Abby.
Although Deby, a wife, daughter, mother, mom-mom, oma, sister, aunt, cousin and friend has left this world, we take great comfort in knowing she is in heaven with God and is surrounded by those who went before her, and who welcomed her with open arms, including her dad.
A private funeral service will be held Thursday, March 14. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in her memory to the CHEER Foundation of Sussex County, online at: Cheer Foundation
