Harvest Tide chef to demo at Lewes farmers market May 11

May 10, 2019

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market will open at 8 a.m., Saturday, May 11, at George H.P. Smith Park with lots of potted plants and flowers to help celebrate moms on their special day.

In addition, the 35 vendors will bring juicy strawberries, freshly cut asparagus, lettuces and greens including mini-romaines, baby kale, bok choy, arugula, Swiss chard, spinach, salad and stir-fry mixes, and tatsoi. Customers will also find a great selection of eggs, milk, butter, grass-fed lamb, pork, beef and chicken, plus mushrooms, honey, herbs, and more.

Shoppers are encouraged to try the excellent lamb at new vendor Grass Works Meat Farm. Springfield Farm is not at market this year.

The HLFM will continue its partnership with the Lewes Public Library. This year, Children’s Story Time will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, June 1.

At 10 a.m., Executive Chef and owner of Harvest Tide Steakhouse Restaurant Danio Somoza-Angel will do a cooking demo. Harvest Tide is the only steakhouse in downtown Lewes. Not only does it have delicious steaks, but also great salads, sides, and appetizers, as well as a very popular happy hour. Somoza-Angel has extensive training in French, American and Asian cuisine.

The market continues its SNAP (EBT food stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants can come to the SNAP tent to pick up the $20 in tokens to use at the market. WIC and SFMNP coupons will also be accepted beginning in June.

The park is at Johnson and DuPont avenues in Lewes. Ample parking can be found at the Shields Elementary School and Lewes School parking lots at the intersection of Savannah Road and Sussex Drive. In case of inclement weather, the market moves to Shields Elementary School parking lot. Customers can get help to carry bags to the parking lots by asking at the HLFM Information Tent.
