John Francis Murray Jr., loved by all who knew him

John Francis Murray Jr., 63, of Lewes, formerly of Newark, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family Friday, May 10, 2019.  He was born Dec. 27, 1955, in Wilmington, son of the late John F. Sr. and Rose (Mongillo) Murray.

Mr. Murray was a graduate of Conrad High School, class of 1973.  He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, having served as a cryptologist from 1973-77.  Upon completion of his military service, Mr. Murray began a lifelong career in telecommunications with Verizon, retiring after 36 dedicated years as a facilities engineer.  He was a member of Men of Malvern for 46 years, St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Lewes, and volunteered at the Milton Food Bank.  An avid Eagles fan, Mr. Murray was ecstatic with the 2018 Super Bowl victory.  Above all, he cherished time spent with those he held dear.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and friend who was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Murray was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Murray.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Diana; his brother, Kevin; his sisters: Robin and Roxanne; his sisters and brothers-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mr. Murray's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Delaware Hospice for their care and compassion.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, May 16, at 11 a.m., at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mr. Murray's memory to the Milton Community Food Pantry, PO Box 84, Milton, DE  19968.
