When adults play, field day gets serious

Inaugural event benefits work of Children and Families First
October 2, 2019

When adults gather for their own field day, it gets serious.

More than 20 teams competed in the first-of-its-kind event Sept. 22 at Hudson Fields to benefit Children & Families First.

Teams, some with thought-provoking names such as Bad News Beers, competed in typical field day games and some not-so-typical games such as hippy hop polo, giant pong and spike ball. Mind games were also part of the event. More than $7,000 was raised.

Rise Rebels #2 finished in the top spot scoring the most points followed by DryZone Wired Up and You Gonna Learn Today. The Hippy Dippies won the Team Spirit Award and You Look Like I Need A Drink raised the most money.

Children & Families First, a statewide organization with an office at 401 S. Bedford St., Georgetown, has been serving children and families since 1884. Children & Families First's mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect, and to intervene and heal those impacted from life-long negative effects.

The organization offers a wide variety of programs for youth from infancy to teens. Other programs include parenting classes, grief and trauma support, workplace support and an adolescent resource center. The organization also facilitates foster care and adoption.
