Accomplishments and success are the hallmark of the Distinguished Alumni Award, which was presented Oct. 19 to three graduates of Delaware Technical Community College, Owens Campus.
Inducted into the Alumni Walk of Success and honored for their outstanding personal and professional achievements were Connie L. Cooper of Lewes, who received her associate degree in human services in 1988; Cindy L. Mitchell of Laurel, who earned her associate degree in human services in 1987; and Mary Lee Phillips of Millsboro, who graduated with an associate degree in business administration in 1969 and has the distinction of being a member of the college’s first class.The honorees each shared their thoughts about Delaware Tech’s influence on their lives.
According to Cooper, who is currently vice president of Cooper Realty, “To say that the college was an incredible influence is an enormous understatement.”
Mitchell, a certified geriatric care manager for CHEER Inc. in Georgetown, said, “Delaware Tech planted seeds that have been growing ever since. It gave me the tools to succeed.”
Now retired, Phillips worked as a business manager for nonprofit organizations and in government accounting during her entire career. She said, “The auditing courses I took defined my future. And my classes helped me to become more confident.”
The honorees were lauded for their professional reputations and the dedication they have exhibited throughout their careers
The Walk of Success recognizes Owens Campus graduates who have made significant contributions to their communities through their academic and career achievements, community service, and personal accomplishments. Bronze plaques bearing the graduates' name, date of graduation, and date of induction are placed in the walkway between the Stephen J. Betze Library and the Carter Partnership Center, and each honoree also receives a plaque.
