Georgetown Microtel awarded Hotel of the Year
Right off Route 113 in Georgetown sits Microtel Inn and Suites. At a glance, Microtel may seem just like any other place to stay, but there’s more to it than its clean and welcoming appearance. The hotel is one of the highest-rated Microtels in the world, and they have the accolades prove it.
In October, Microtel Inn and Suites won the Hotel of the Year award from its parent company, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts. This is the second Hotel of the Year award won by the Georgetown location, with the first for the 2015-16 year. This is only the top of the list, with an array of awards spanning from AAA’s Best of Housekeeping award in 2019 and www.hotels.com’s award, Loved by Guests, from 2017-19.
Of 343 Microtel Inns around the world, Georgetown’s is among the best.
What exactly is a Microtel? It’s a chain of hotels that focuses on core values: cleanliness, convenience and customer service.
Mary Susan Jones, general manager of the Georgetown Microtel, said, “[Microtel Inns] are a very simplistic way to stay. When people think of going to hotels like a Four Seasons, you think of getting the posh and the whole nine yards. When you stay here, you get very clean rooms and the ease of everything. It’s very comfortable and very user-friendly.”
Achieving the Hotel of the Year award is not as simple. It comes down to a collection of different attributes. From cleanliness ratings to customer reviews, the hotel must be appealing and financially successful. The Georgetown location has flourished in all of these categories, and it starts with the staff.
“The reason this hotel stands out is because of our team,” Jones said. “They’re all second to none. We don’t take no for an answer. If it doesn’t look right or smell right to you, then it doesn’t look right or smell right to us.”
Chad Moore, principal of Beacon Hospitality, developers of the Georgetown Microtel Inn, also attributed the success to the staff. He said, “Our success is from a combination of a couple of things. It’s a very driven team in the office, housekeeping and breakfast staff. The entire staff is driven to outperform its competitors. We’re trying to create a culture that is one of a family, and I think we’ve successfully done that.”
Before 2019, a Microtel had never won Wyndham Hotel and Resorts’ Hotel of the Year award twice. The next goal? Win three.
“We set our own bar this year because we beat ourselves,” Jones said. “We can only go above the achievements we’ve already accomplished. It really just comes down to doing what you love.”
This world-renowned Microtel plans to keep on winning awards for its customer satisfaction and attention to detail, and it sits right in our backyard.
