Short story writer to offer publishing advice
November 10, 2011

From 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, fiction writer Carl F. Thompson Jr. will read from his recently published collection, "Stories Off the Garden Path," at Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach.  Thompson will also share with audience members his path to book publication and offer advice to aspiring writers on working with small publishing houses as an alternative to big-box New York publishers.

"Stories Off the Garden Path," a collection of 12 stories, both humorous and odd, is published by Main Street Rag Publishing Company, Charlotte, N.C. MSR has published a quarterly literary magazine, "The Main Street Rag," since 1996. MSR also publishes poetry chapbooks and full-length poetry books, fiction anthologies, novellas, and novels.

Thompson lives with his wife Patricia in Annandale, Va., and in Rehoboth Beach. His stories have appeared in "The Potomac Review," "The William and Mary Review," "The Main Street Rag," "The New Orphic Review," "Phantasmagoria," "Thema," "Thin Air" and elsewhere. A member of the Rehoboth Beach Writers’ Guild, Thompson, a retired federal employee and a U.S. Army veteran, is currently at work on a novel.
