Veterans and ironworkers meet at Edgemoor in 1943

November 12, 2019

This photograph from March of 1943 shows a group of veterans meeting with ironworkers at the Edgemoor Iron Works along the Delaware River north of Wilmington.

The operation supplied all of the steel for construction of the Brooklyn Bridge over New York City’s East River. During World War Two, it’s said that two boilers built by Edgemoor Iron Works were placed in each of the Liberty Ships constructed in rapid order to support the allied war effort.
