Mother and son attend police academy

November 14, 2011

This past summer, Sussex Technical High School social studies teacher Lisa Swan of Laurel and son, ninth grader Eron Swan, completed the Teen Citizen’s Police Academy sponsored by the Harrington Police Department.

The curriculum for the eight-week program included bullying, dating violence, gang activity, community policing, and evidence collection. Participants were able to engage in a DUI simulation in which they drove go-carts while wearing “beer goggles,” and had a visit from the K-9 unit.

Swan plans to incorporate the information learned through the academy in her civics course at Sussex Tech.

Present for the presentation of civics teacher Swan's certificate of completion are back row (l-r) Sgt. Earl Brode and Deputy Chief Keith Shyers of Harrington Police Department.  In front are Swan and PFC Jessica Jacobs of the Harrington Police Department.
