Jim Martin, director of Shepherd’s Office at 408 N. Bedford St., Georgetown, spent most of his Thanksgiving Day helping those in need, including area homeless. “Basically, I open the doors and get out of the way and let the volunteers do their thing,” he said, sipping on a cup of coffee.

During the two hours of serving, Martin said about 100 people came in from the cold to eat a warm meal with food donated by people from throughout Sussex County.

The event coincided with the outreach ministry’s weekly Thursday lunch, which has been taking place for more than a year. The meal takes place each Thursday, and is offered to anyone who is hungry, Martin said. The 55th meal was served Dec. 5.

Martin puts out the word via social media that he needs crock pots of food, and so far his plea has been answered each week by church groups, businesses and individuals. Phone Martin at 856-9395 or go to the theshepherdsoffice.webs.com for more information or to make a donation.
