Milton completes Federal Street purchase

December 18, 2019

Milton Town Council is moving forward with the purchase of a four-acre parcel on Federal Street that the town plans to use for future water infrastructure.

Town Manager Kristy Rogers told town council Dec. 2 that the $425,000 purchase has been in the works for five years. Located next to the Rails to Trails extension at 614 Federal St., Rogers said the land was ideal for the town’s water infrastructure needs because it is open space outside the floodplain, and offers good access and good water quality. She said the rear of the property would be the best spot for a well, treatment facility and water tower.

Rogers said the purchase is funded by real estate transfer tax. She said the town will soon begin engaging in planning and design of a new well.
