Holly Sugrue’s Mariner Middle students collected more than 1,600 canned goods, boxes of stuffing, brownies and other items during a two-week food drive to benefit a local homeless shelter.
Donated food was delivered to Crisis House Emergency Shelter in Georgetown, and the students were excited to provide tasty food to people who need it.
“We wanted to help the homeless have good food and be happy,” student Beren Klein said. “We even got better food, like brownies, cookies and cakes.”
“They don’t have somewhere to live, so we are also giving socks, gloves and hats,” student Miguel Morales said.
Students also decorated a Christmas tree, donated by Coastal Christmas Trees, at Crisis House.
