CHEER celebrated the retirement of Nutrition Program Director Florence Mason Dec 20.
Mason came to CHEER in 1993 after a 25-year career as the food service director at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. At that time, CHEER had a limited nutrition program. The nutrition program now supplies 1,700 meals every day to senior citizens.
Local officials were on hand to pay tribute to Mason’s service to the senior community in Sussex County. Her last day at CHEER was Dec. 25, after Operation Christmas CHEER was completed. Operation Christmas CHEER provides not only meals but gifts, poinsettias and the involvement of dozens of volunteers, including three generations of Mason’s family.
