Vikings’ average margin of victory is 40 points in four Henlopen wins
January 8, 2020

The Cape girls’ basketball team was surgical but not inspirational, running the Big House clock on Sussex Central Jan. 7 for a 60-23 win behind 27 points from Abbey Hearn and a double-double from floor manager Dania Cannon, who contributed 10 points and 10 assists.

The Golden Knights were paced by Ja’Marah Hopkins with 12 points.

The score at halftime was 27-11.

“I looked across the gym at a pretty big crowd and they were mostly just sitting there,” said coach Pat Woods. “We want to play exciting basketball, to play fast and unselfishly. We only had eight players dressed for the game. Every coach will tell you that each game is an opportunity to get better. We have work to do and we know it.”

Cape is 4-0 in Henlopen Conference Northern Division play with an average margin of victory of 40 points.

Cape has a steady diet of Henlopen Conference games the rest of the way, except for a Friday, Jan. 31 showdown versus Conrad, one of the state’s top teams.

The Cape junior varsity squad beat Sussex Central 55-26 behind 16 points and six rebounds from Akira Perry. The Vikings are 4-0 coming off a 17-0 season.
