Milton Farmers Market donates to community food pantry

January 19, 2020

The Milton Farmers Market donated $1,250 to the Milton Community Food Pantry in December, sending much-needed resources to a hometown organization that provided more than 5,000 meals to Milton-area families this Thanksgiving.

Using proceeds from a better-than-expected 2019 market season, Milton Farmers Market President Patti Nicholson and Treasurer Norman Lester presented a $1,250 check to Milton Community Food Pantry President Barbara Wright.

Each year, the Milton Farmers Market aims to donate funds to local nonprofits helping feed others in the community, or groups that support students destined for careers in agriculture. The market’s operations committee endeavors to keep the donated funds within the market’s service area and further its mission of fostering a true sense of community. Past recipients include the Milton CHEER Center’s Meals on Wheels Program and the Gladys Wilkins Seeding the Future Scholarship Fund.

The market also has accepted Delaware WIC coupons for the past three years and participates in the Delaware Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
