Cape Henlopen Viking Battalion visits Rehoboth Elementary

Cadets motivate students to be leaders
December 1, 2011

Cape JROTC students visited Rehoboth Elementary School recently to help deliver a patriotism lesson.

Sgt. First Class Richard Hurt and several Cape JROTC cadets visited the school Nov. 9 to help motivate and inspire students to become leaders and positive role models for others. The cadets emphasized the importance of patriotism and the value of volunteering in the community.

Students have been studying how to show their patriotism in society. Each morning following the Pledge of Allegiance, students recite their school pledge, “Today we will be responsible, respectful, safe and show excellence in everything we do.”

Cadets in full uniform explained the purposes of their different uniforms and the significance of the various insignia on them. They shared personal experiences and discussed the importance of respect, responsibility, excellence and safety and how these character traits can help them be outstanding leaders and citizens. Cadets finished their presentation with a question-and-answer session.

“I enjoyed coming back to visit,” said Cadet Master Sgt. Alisha Artson, who attended Rehoboth Elementary.

For Cadet Capt. Alicia Hearne, “It was a good way to practice public speaking skills.”
