March 31, 2020

With Delaware public schools closed until May 15 and virtual learning set to begin Monday, April 6, Cape Superintendent Bob Fulton announced a revised spring break schedule.

Originally set for Friday, April 10, through Friday, April 17, spring break has been condensed to a long weekend, Good Friday, April 10, through Easter Monday, April 13, Fulton said in a March 27 letter to families.

“Staff and students will be working remotely for the remainder of the original spring break,” Fulton said. “We are working on a revised calendar for the remainder of the year to reflect all changes. We hope to have this to families in mid-April.”

The school board will meet virtually at 4 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, to possibly vote on revisions to the 2019-20 calendar. A Zoom link is available at the online meeting agenda under the Board of Education tab at capehenlopenschools.com.

Fulton said a phone survey showed most district families have internet or wifi access and a device to use at home for remote learning. The district is now working with families that need a device and compiling a list of hot spots in the area for internet access.

Fulton also said the bus driver who tested positive for COVID-19 March 20 was cleared by the Delaware Department of Health March 27. Throughout the illness, the employee stayed isolated at home and experienced only mild symptoms, Fulton said.
